UPI stands for Unified Payments Interphase. The easiest way to think of UPI is that it is a payment method to transfer money between 2 parties. It is similar to NEFT or RTGS transfers in that way.
A Virtual Payment Address (VPA) is a unique identifier which you can use to send and receive money on UPI. Think of it as an email ID which you can use to transfer money.
Dhani UPI at this point of time will be connected to the users Dhani wallet only. You can use the funds available in your Dhani wallet to pay and receive money to other UPI IDs (however you can use your bank account to load money in Dhani Wallet)
Your Dhani UPI ID is created for you at no extra charge. The UPI ID is created using your registered mobile number along with the suffix ‘@dhani’ . It will be in the format mobilenumber@dhani. (For example - 7********5@dhani).
You will be able to send money to any UPI ID regardless of whether the person receiving the money is a Dhani app user or not. You can also use your Dhani UPI to pay at all merchant stores (this includes petrol pumps, online stores, supermarkets, etc.) which accept payment via UPI.
Currently, you will only be able to use the Dhani UPI ID which is linked to your Dhani wallet in order to do your UPI transactions. In the future, we aim to integrate our services with other banks in which case you will be able to link your existing UPI IDs to the Dhani app.
The transaction has failed due to a system error. Any funds that have been deducted from your Dhani wallet, the amount will be returned in 2-3 business days. Your transaction ID is your reference ID, which you can use to reach out to Customer care if the funds have not been reflected in your wallet.
The transaction has failed due to a system error. The money is in the pool account of the collecting bank (merchant bank). Your transaction ID is your reference ID, which you can take up with the merchant bank. Any funds that have been deducted from your Dhani wallet, should be returned in a few working days based on merchant policy and the collecting bank policy.
The transaction is pending due to a system error. If funds have not been deducted from your account, please close the pending status screen and try again. If any funds have been deducted from your Dhani wallet, the amount will be returned in 2-3 business days. Your transaction ID is your reference ID, which you can use to reach out to Customer care if the funds have not been reflected in your wallet after 3 business days.
The QR code should be a valid QR. If the app is unable to scan the QR code, please try to see if the the QR code is damaged, incomplete or dirty. If the problem persists, please try to attempt completing the transaction using the Merchant VPA through the send money section of Dhani UPi. If the problem persists, please contact Dhani Customer Support.
Sending money via UPI is an instant transfer, hence we request you to check all details before transacting. A successful transaction cannot be reversed, unless the beneficiary refunds at his own end. You can try and raise a collect request (for VPA based transactions) and hope that the user will return the same. There is no guarantee that your amount will be reversed.

Verification of a UPI ID happens through NPCI. If the UPI ID is not verified, please recheck the UPI ID entered. If the error persists, it may be because the UPI ID does not exist, has been deregistered by NPCI or the receiver has blocked your VPA from their end.
To view your UPI ID, you can go to the UPI tile on the home page of the Dhani app. The default UPI ID created for all customers will follow the same format. The UPI ID is created using your registered mobile number along with the suffix ‘@dhani’ . It will be in the format mobilenumber@dhani. (For example - 7********5@dhani).
When you enter a VPA and click on verify, the account holder’s name (as mentioned in the bank’s system) will be displayed. This is for you to cross check if the sender and the bank account to which you want to send money are the same. Incase they appear different, please re-confirm the VPA of the receiver. Money once sent cannot be reversed.
On the Dhani app, you can initiate a collect transaction for asking money from someone using their UPI ID or their registered Dhani mobile number. You have to enter the amount and UPI ID. The user who will receive the request can pay or decline the collect request by authenticating it.
Pending transactions can be viewed in the request section. The requests will be valid till for 15 minutes. If the request is not accepted within that set time, the request expires.
You can view pending collect requests in two ways.
1. When a collect request is received, it will be visible in the notifications of your Dhani app.
2. You can view the collect request in the Authorize Collect section of the UPI page on your Dhani app. You can choose to accept or decline the collect request.
When you authorize a collect request and send money via UPI , it is an instant transfer, hence we request you to check all details before transacting. A successful transaction cannot be reversed, unless the beneficiary refunds at his own end. You can try and raise a collect request (for VPA based transactions) and hope that the user will return the same. There is no guarantee that your amount will be reversed.
You can choose to block that UPI ID either through the pop-up when you choose to decline a collect request or by entering the UPI ID in the “Block/Unblock” section in your Dhani profile.
Once a UPI ID is blocked, you will not be able to send money, send a request, receive a collect request, or receive money from that blocked UPI ID.
You can go to the “Block/Unblock” section in your Dhani profile and click on the “Unblock” button to unblock that UPI ID.
